Yay HP was awesome! It had a lot of funny bits and some more darker serious ones and I think all the actors did an excelent job. I'm not going to spoil it for people though.

I posted my review of the movie in my LJ under a cut if you want to read it.

Post 4 by maddog (I'll have the last word, thank you!) on Friday, 17-Jul-2009 13:01:15

I was frankly disappointed. The end for instance when the death eaters were supposed to invade the school through the room of requirement, only like...one came (bela). They didn't even put Grayback into this movie. There were some funny bits, the beginning gave me a little chuckle, but over all I was disappointed with the movie as a whole. If you all don't go see it, it's my personal opinion that you're not missing anything.

Actually Greyback was in the movie, but I don't think he had any speaking parts though.

I've heard the exact opposite from another person. I've heard it was amazing, and I can't wait till monday! Now, gotta remember to buy advanced tickets.

eh, it wasn't anything to really write home about. And since when did the Weezley's house catch fire? WTF. It was ok, I'm glad I saw it, but the cave scene wasn't all that. I like they way they portrayed lavender. The more emotional relationshippie bits were good.

Post 8 by Daenerys Targaryen (Enjoying Life) on Saturday, 18-Jul-2009 20:44:11

Yeah the fire wasn't in the book at all. I think they should have left that out and included the memories that were supposed to explain more about Voldemorts family and past...

Post 9 by blindndangerous (the blind and dangerous one) on Sunday, 19-Jul-2009 1:44:11

Got the tickets today, and we'll be seeing it on monday. Man, I should stop reading this topic.

Post 10 by HauntedReverie (doing the bad mango) on Sunday, 19-Jul-2009 12:13:14

I think the memory bit was fine, that's not really movie material, but they could have done the cave scene more justice. And since when do the weezley's live near a swamp? or did I miss something? but maybe I'm bias, I had to pee for about half the movie so, haha.

well you guys have convinced me. the movie industry will not be receiving my hard earned dinero. since when does hollywood have to mess with books and add stuff? i mean, do they think they know more then the original author? Grrrrrrrrrrr!!! Wooof Wooof. i'm mad.

I was torn. It was awesome just because it was HP and I adore Alan Rickman as Snape, but they really butchered the story. Thought they focused too much on the relationship and teen angst and not enough on the Voldermort history stuff. The whole thing was just kind of awkward and didn't flow well. Kind of jumped from one thing to another without connecting all the parts. The fire was just totally random and WTF. And I thought it was wierd how Fudge's resignation and Voldermort's increasing control at the Ministry of Magic was never mentioned. Also agree that the battle at the end should have been a bigger deal. It seemd totally random how a couple of death eaters just kind of showed up at Hogwarts and there was no one from the Order to fight back. The ending really made no sense unless you had read the book and could fill in the blanks for yourself. Leaving out the funeral kind of sucked the emotion out of it too. The whole thing was just wierd. I know it's impossible to include everything from the book, but I just think they left the wrong stuff out. I guess I still liked it, but I was disappointed as well.

Well saw it, and that last post kinda summed up all I wanted to say. So thanks. :D

Post 15 by Daenerys Targaryen (Enjoying Life) on Saturday, 25-Jul-2009 1:37:17

Well at least someone else doesn't think it was all that bad. I've already seen it three times... I do agree with post 12 though...

I loved it. I wish they had left the attack on the Burrow until the next film. wonder where the Weasleys are going to live now that their house has been destroyed.

Post 19 by Daenerys Targaryen (Enjoying Life) on Thursday, 06-Aug-2009 12:56:15

Yeah that's what I want to know.

spoiler alert!!!

ok before I give my opinion let me say first that as an avid fan of the books, I'm never going to be completely happy with the movies. <grin>
I actually thought that the whole ron/lavinder thing was done well. The actress that played lavinder was waaay over the top, but that's how it was in the book. so coodos. lol
I died laughing in the beginning with the waitress hitting on harry!
Good to see lupen again, I frankly didn't think I'd be seeing him until movie 7.
I also think the actor that plays snape, sorry I'm horrible with names, did a really good job.
I also think that the actors that play ron hermione and harry, really gave some of their best work in the series to date.
Ok, I know I'm stretching here... lol
Now for what I didn't like.
ok, no funeral. didn't like that, but I can see that as an exceptible cut. don't shoot!!! grin
But what I hated was the hack and slash job they did with the memories. While I freely admit that those are my favorite parts of the 6th book, and I knew they'd have to cut some of them, they didn't show what's important to voldimort! So it made it seem that horcruxes could be absolutely anything. Oh no! My cane's a horcrux!
Huge! Gaping! Plot hole!
I also didn't like how Dumbledor didn't put harry in the full body bind curse, giving malfoy the chance to disarm him, and keeping harry from possibly helping. I do get that as far as harry not helping goes, it can be argued that dumbledor told him not to do anything no matter what. But I didn't buy malfoy successfully disarming dumbledor in the middle of their talk. I know dumbledor was weak. But still. And if dumbledor allowed malfoy to disarm him, they that opens up another huge plot hole in the 7th movie! If that were the case, then malfoy wouldn't have become the master of the elder wand, because he would have never truly won it from him.
so ok, that's my rather longer ramble than I intended, <grin>, but take it for what it's worth. <smile>
But I'm stil buying it when it comes out on dvd!
Jen

Yup, I agree.
I know parts have to be left out, just wish certain things weren't changed.

Post 22 by mysticrain (Art is born of the observation and investigation of nature.) on Thursday, 06-Aug-2009 23:01:36

right?
And oh yeah, the weezley's house? wtf! Did not like that at all!

Post 23 by metal angel (Help me, I'm stuck to my chair!) on Friday, 07-Aug-2009 15:05:28

Post 24 by mysticrain (Art is born of the observation and investigation of nature.) on Friday, 07-Aug-2009 15:12:19

Snape or Alan rickman is bloody fan - fhfhfhfhrhrhrhrheakin - tastic! I loved the use of humor in this film. It was great overall to see in the theatre with the added bonus of descriptive headphones.
